To answer the research question: How can technology companies succeed in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) communication through social media, I plan to do a literature review in this field. For this week, I have downloaded more than 20 articles from the online library, which including the topics of CSR communication strategies, social media and corporate e-reputation. Nevertheless, I found there is few study that particularly focus on corporate communications of technology companies or ICT industry. Therefore, I am considering to search for some cases of global leading technology companies to promote my study in this topic, as well as turn to some Chinses database to find various resources from different perspectives. To undertake some comparative studies in my literature review, I would like to choose one of the worldwide top technology companies like Google or IBM, and one Chinese domestic enterprise like Tencent.

As far as I concerned, a CSR oriented company are more likely to run its business with humanity and sustainability in mind. In fact, there are plenty of technology corporations started with strong sense of social responsibility. For instance, IBM holds the value that: “Whether a company thrives depends on its ability to meet human needs. Profit is only an evaluation system, yet to improve the lives of all the human beings is our ultimate goal.” Additionally, as technology and Internet companies own the cutting-edge techniques, they can create more advanced platforms and social networks to engage in CSR communications. In my next-step study for the final project, I will pay more attention to the features of CSR communications and social media performances in technology companies, and try to finger out the relationship among these factors.
